Roll a d10 - What's in a street medias pockets

Sometimes you need to shuffle through the pockets of a street media who is... taking an extended rest. Here are ten things that you may find.

Things in a street medias pockets.

1 – A taped up roll of hardline connectors for various camera types.

2 – Pocket radio with earbuds that is tuned into all the police radio channels.

3 – Several different ‘Press’ badges from different major media outlets, all counterfeit.

4 – A pocket first aid kit.

5 – Small armored packet containing fresh data slugs for their camera and other equipment.

6 – Extra power bank charger for their phone.

7 – An emergency switch that uploads all their media to their private cloud storage with one click.

8 – A fold-able face mask with filters and lenses that cover their eyes that seal.

9 – Burner cellphone loaded with emergency numbers.

10 – Back up hand held micro video recorder that looks like an ink pen.

Cyberpunk Sunday a dark adventure

Want to write a cyberpunk adventure where the player are tracking down a hacker. The main thing the hacker is wanted for is going to a secret fetish club for those into extreme femdom. Then hacking into all the super high tech chastity cages for men and causing them to either explode, catastrophically overheat or constrict so tight the wearer is castrated. All of the men in the club, all at the same time.

Maybe even work this into a 'Rogue Television' story for my Max Headroom inspired cyber setting that's been bouncing in my head for a couple of decades.

Anyways I just want to see the looks on the players faces when they discover the crimes he has committed. Yeah sometimes I'm that kind of GM.

Or... maybe have him do that. Then start blackmailing others who are now locked into those chastity devices because he changed the passwords. Getting money, making them do insane things, extortion. All sorts of males in positions of power suddenly trying to stop the group because they are being threatened with losing their nuts.

Cyberpunk Magic Items

Want to throw some magic items into your cyberpunk scifi games? Well here are six quick ones for you take a look at.

"The Ghost Blade" - A sleek katana that appears to be made of translucent, shimmering metal. Its blade can cut through nearly any material, including advanced cybernetic implants and robotic limbs.

"The Cloaking Device" - A small device that can be attached to any piece of clothing or equipment. It renders the wearer invisible to most forms of electronic surveillance, including cameras, sensors, and drones.

"The Neural Implant Enhancer" - A device that can be implanted in a person's brain. It enhances the user's cognitive abilities, including memory, perception, and problem-solving skills. However, prolonged use can lead to severe mental strain and even madness.

"The Mimic's Hand" - A cybernetic hand that can transform into any tool or weapon that the user can imagine. It can even mimic the appearance and function of other cybernetic implants or prosthetics.

"The Gravity Boots" - A pair of sleek, high-tech boots that allow the user to manipulate gravity. They can jump incredibly high or land safely from any height, and can even walk on walls or ceilings.

"The Data Vortex" - A small, handheld device that can upload and download massive amounts of data wirelessly. It can also create a temporary "data storm" that disrupts nearby electronics and communications. However, using it too frequently can attract unwanted attention from corporations and governments who want to control information flow.

Screams From The Outhouse - Cyberlimb Thoughts

Cyberlimbs

Let's take a look at cyberlimbs a bit. Not in the losing humanity or becoming more machine. Just a quick look at some ideas on the limbs themselves. A bit how they would operate and be designed.

Unsealed systems. What you see in most cyberpunk style artwork. Require cleaning, oiling and general upkeep. This would also be the earliest type created and would create an entire secondary market of cleaning products, self done mod kits for appearances and various upgrades.

Sealed systems. Cost more but require no cleaning as everything is enclosed. One small injection port for a synthetic lubricant to be added when required and maybe one more for charging the system. A perfect location would be in the fingernails as they could operate as a covering flap when not being used.

Powering cyberlimbs. Most have a rechargeable battery pack. The body does NOT generate enough electric to power these limbs. Most have a simple plug in port like any other electrical device. Some (especially sealed systems) have built in wireless charging abilities. Wireless charging points would likely become something a business would advertise as it would be good to know that your limb is getting a charge while you enjoying your Bic Mac and fries.

Most sealed systems have a fake skin covering. The appearance would be that of regular skin and it would be set to match your current skin tone, however it would be more resistant to damage than regular human skin. Also it would me more flexible and stretch further and self repairs scrapes and small cuts. However large cuts will break the surface tension causing the entire layer to start to pull loose. Replacing the entire thing is necessary as there is no way to repair it at that point.

Due to the sealed covering and just the nature of the design sealed systems are not easily upgradable. Not to mention that some upgrades would be impossible such as hidden compartments, pop up weapons or even heavier armor. Nearly all upgrades would have to be bought at the same time you are getting the limb. Anything done afterwords would be extremely costly and take quiet a bit more time as well.

This is something to take into consideration the next time you want to take the details of your cyberpunk games to a higher level.

Working on the system for Rogue Televison

Okay been brainstorming on a simple skill system to use with Rogue Television. I don't want it complex or number crunchy but with some variance. Also wanted to step away from the usual method of rolling under your skill level that I usually use in a lot of games.

Here is what I have so far copy/paste from my open office document I'm jotting all of this down on.

----------------------------------------------

Skill ranking and mechanics idea. Uses just six siders.

unskilled roll two dice and keep the lowest
skilled roll two and keep the highest
adept roll three and keep the highest
expert roll four and keep the highest

Some skills would be listed as NA for unskilled and impossible to do at that level.

Target numbers would depend on the action. Some would be based off a preset difficulty. For example with lockpicking the lock would have its own number that needed to be reached. 2 for the easiest and 6 for the hardest. Performing under duress adds one to the target number. Others such as dancing would depend on a number determined by the GM, with 2 being easy and 6 being the hardest.

Target numbers for hitting somebody would depend on the weapon and range/actions of target. Examples: Long range would add one, moving target would add one, duress would add one, weapon is low quality adds one, things like this. So if you are trying to hit a perfectly stationary target at normal range the difficulty would be 2. But a target at long range that is running and you are being shot at also (duress) would be a 5.

Of course this could make combat pretty deadly with expert fighters. But then again, shouldn't it be that way?

Rogue Television introduction

ROGUE TELEVISION
Playtest draft v1.0
By PeterAmthor

Rogue Television takes place in a world that is much like our own, but one that has gone radically wrong in the area of media control. It’s a world where the high rise media corporations that pump out endless amounts of television broadcasts set back and brainwash the public viewers with embedded messages and flashing images. Where the networks are the political power and they make the laws to fit them and their ratings. It’s a place where it’s illegal to turn off your television.

In the beginning…

The first steps that were taken into this direction occurred during the United States Presidential Elections. Both the Republicans and the Democrats put up candidates that the majority of the populace was immensely unhappy with. There were demonstrations, protests and sometime acts of outright violence towards the two parties. In an attempt to become more favorable to the people an increase of television adds was put into place. Doubling the number that were shown, literally, overnight. This did not go over well.

Anthony Slater, owner of three networks that all had gotten the increase of ads, took notice of this and was displeased. He watched as the rating plummeted on his stations, where the increase of political propaganda drove the audience away. This began costing him financially as other advertisers began to stop having their ads shown with the new glut. Only one action came to his mind that could solve this, that of giving the people another choice, so he decided to run for President as well.

On the very same day that he announced his candidacy in the race he pulled all of the ads for the other two political parties from his stations. In their place he put up support for his ‘Network Party’ but not nearly in the numbers that the others were using. His platform was based around change in the political world to better serve the people. By putting those in charge that know what they want because they’ve been providing it for them for decades. The reaction was overwhelming and almost completely positive.

A landslide victory was the gift received by Slater when he pulled over eighty percent of the vote. His stations were the leaders in ratings and watched worldwide now. This, of course, didn’t settle well with his competitors in the television business. Soon other networks began running their own people into other offices; senators, congressmen, mayors, you name it. With the precedent set there was nothing the former leading political parties could do as they slowly watched their power get pulled from underneath them.

Within the eight years that Slater was the in the Oval Office the entire spectrum of the political arena changed hands. The networks were now in control leaving only five percent still in the hands of the old parties. Due to the sheer amount of different networks this basically created dozens of political parties now. This lead to a change in the way the television media operated also for now they were the ones in charge of the very offices that restricted what they showed and how they showed it. The power was in their hands and, like all power; it corrupted those who held it.

They created and approved laws that helped them. Now subliminal messages were in and privacy rights were out. Technology that could create a competitor was buried under red tape and restrictions that crippled their development. Computer technology was suppressed and the home computer system has never really came to exist as it does now. While anything that could be used to enhance the televised media and strengthen its grip were given free reign.

Now twenty years after Slater’s victory in taking the Presidential Office of the United States things are very different, although disturbingly familiar at the same time. The Network Governments rule over the masses and feed them constants streams of mindless and mind numbing programming. This is the world of Rogue Television.
