Fantasy Six Pack - Magical Fair Foods

In a fantasy world it's always fun to have some passive magic that really isn't anything more than a cantrip. In this case it's a six pack of some slightly magical foods that are sold at larger fairs and events.

Slightly magical fantasy fair foods

1 – Smokin’ Speakin’ Chick’n Wings. A small pack of four smoked and sauced chicken wings. Once eaten you’re every fourth word spoken comes out as a chicken squawk. Lasts for 2D6 minutes.

2 – Rose Hard Candies. A small pack of three rose colored hard candies. Whenever you have one in your mouth everything in your field of visions has a rose pink tint to it. Makes natural firelight look really pretty. Each candy lasts about five minutes.

3 – Tongue Pleasing Frog Legs. Two frog legs, batter dipped and deep fried on a stick. Slightly spice and makes you salivate quite a bit. Once consumed your tongue will increase in length to twice it’s size and you can pop it in and out of your mouth like a frog. Lasts for 2D6 minutes.

4 – Happy Sticks. Three six inch long crisp bread sticks filled with a sugar and browned butter mixture. Served in a brown paper wrapper shaped like a cone. For each one you eat you spend six minutes thinking everything is blissfully fine and dandy.

5 – Cold Fruit Cocktail. A mix of fruit juices, sugar, and a bit of alcohol kept as cold as possible. Served in small cups or poured into whatever the fair goer has. While you are drinking this you feel a slight chill and can see your breath as if your in a very cold climate.

6 – Lightening Candy. Crystallized hard candy on a stick that comes in a variety of colors. The flavor is pretty much just sugary sweet. However whenever a person who has been eating one gets close to somebody else who is it creates harmless bursts of colored electricity to go back and forth between them. Lasts for about fifteen minutes.

RPGaDAY 2024 - Day Sixteen

Quick to Learn.

Going with one that I haven't mentioned yet. The amazingly easy to learn, super fast and simple fantasy game from across the big pond. Advanced Fighting Fantasy from Arion Games. With it's roots growing from the old Fighting Fantasy books of old (Sorcery! and Warlock of Firetop Mountain were the GOATs) they have built upon that simple 2D6 mechanic and made it into a full fledged RPG. Easy to play, lots of optional stuff to add in. Just all around a really great game that needs more attention!

Advanced Fighting Fantasy new Kickstarter

There's a new Kickstarter up for Arion Games Advanced Fighting Fantasy. The new Adventure Creation System is made to help you generate an adventure for your group OR for generating a solo RPG adventure. That's a pretty nifty bit of work right there. It's also priced to not break the bank on the print version so that's another big plus.

Find the new Kickstarter HERE

Find all current Advanced Fighting Fantasy products on DrivethruRPG HERE

AFF is very much worth checking out if you haven't given it a look. Rules light, quick character creation and a lot of fun.

Advanced Fighting Fantasy Deluxe sale

Over on DrivethruRPG the Advanced Fighting Fantasy Deluxe Edition is now on sale. Now this is one of the best rules light fantasy games that I've ever had the pleasure of playing and running. The rules are based off of the old Fighting Fantasy books like The Warlock of Firetop Mountain and the Sorcery! series. I highly recommend this one folks.

Fantasy City Aesthetic

I always liked the look of fantasy cities that a lot of European fantasy games use. Especially Warhammer Fantasy. That cramped feel, multiple story building, and just a lot more creative than just a few single story buildings laid out all neatly by a grid.

For example this one from "Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Building of the Reikland"

Very much worth the 3.99 price tag if you ask me.

I mean this look is much more appealing to me. Sparks the imagination more. Someday I need to run a city based fantasy game again using Advanced Fighting Fantasy, which has become my go too choice for rules light fantasy gaming. But who knows when I'll get the time.

However the pdf of this book shall be looked at whenever I do get around to it.

Stones Landing

In my upcoming Advanced Fighting Fantasy game I will not be using the world provided in the book (which is called Titan).  Instead I will be using my own setting which has no title.  Hopefully I will be fleshing it out more with some regular blog posts here.  First up is Stones Landing, the city from which the characters will be embarking from for their adventures.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stones Landing is the first, and so far only, established city along the Blighted Coast of the continent of Anmar. A continent that suffered much devastation in the previous sundering that nearly wiped out world clean. After isolation of nearly a hundred years Captain Abigale Stone dropped anchor in the remains of what was once a mighty sea side fortress forty years ago. The first years were fraught with peril from both a harsh environment and the twisted inhabitants what lived in the surrounding areas. The Bane was not kind to those who lived here before.

But with continued support from the Kingdom of Sil-Tarran there has been a slow claiming of the old keep and the surrounding areas. Clusters of houses, shops, stables and others structures have been erected with much haste and little planning. The result is a ramshackle city that resembles more of a township that simply keeps building on top of itself.

Nearby farmland has been replanted and is slowly providing crops once again. Along with a nearby mine that is giving forth ore after more than a century of silence. But the real bounty that is sought is that which is brought back by the brave few who venture forth into the depths of Anmar. Traveling what is left of the old roads and braving the creatures who lurk there. It has become a dream for adventurers seeking fame and, most importantly, fortune. But for every one who achieves this there are easily ten who have perished.

Some points have been mapped out and areas explored. But even those can warrant many hazards as the twisted remains of the Orc tribes regularly move around like blood hungry nomads. Or the occasional monstrosity created by the Nepentheans during the Sundering will make their way towards the new establishments of men. Entire small villages that have attempted to lay root at some distance from Stones Landing have vanished overnight. Leaving only burnt buildings, blood and the dead behind.

Those who seek to travel beyond the safety of the city can find anything they may need before leaving it's protected walls. Rations, arms and armor, information that may be of dubious worth, even some relics that others have brought back. Of course it's all for a price and coin is what the people who live here are after.

Advanced Fighting Fantasy

Been looking at picking up Advanced Fighting Fantasy here over the last few days.  After reading over the quickstart it looks to be pretty much exactly what I want in a simple fantasy system.  It's based off of the old Fighting Fantasy choose your own adventure books (a system I was trying to emulate last year in a homebrew).  Now with my love of the old Sorcery! and Warlock of Firetop Mountain books this seems right up my alley.

The overall system is dirt simple, 2D6 and roll under for stat checks, for combat 2D6 + Skill Stat + any modifiers vs opponents roll of the same thing.  A D6 roll to determine damage based off of the weapon.  Looks to be a really good system for me.  While there doesn't seem to be a strong fan base here in the states there is a good one overseas.  I'll just have to do a little work to help build up some steam for it here locally whenever I get it.

But sadly, like most everything else I've wanted lately, it doesn't appear to be available through general distribution channels here in the United States anymore.  So I can't get it through my friendly local game shop where I have store credit available to pay for the book.  Also I don't have enough credit with Drivethru through the affiliate program to get it either.  With my extra funds floating around zero right now with my wedding coming up I can't spend anything straight out of pocket currently.  So I'm having to wait, eventually it will be mine.

Oh and I don't pirate games either so that isn't an option that I even consider.

For anyone else who is interested here are some quick drivethru links.

It looks to be very worth looking into for anyone who wants a rules simple fantasy game system.  And yes I will get a few pennies in kickback if you use the links above and purchase anything (same with the links over on the right) but I have to try.
