Jaded Gamer Diary the Industry Insider bullshit

Some people really piss me off you know?  Currently it's the bunch of jackasses who are all bitching about the 'Industry Insider' panel at GenCon.  What is sad is they are so pathetic they are making up bullshit excuses as to why they are really pissed off.  Right now they are claiming it is because some of the people on there aren't 'qualified' to be 'insiders'.  This is a lie.

They are pissed because the majority of the people on that panel are women.

Never before have I seen an uproar over on who is on this panel.  I've looked back at some of the lists of people who have been up there.  Some are way less experienced then some of the women on this years panel.  Yet there was no uproar, no bitching, no complaining.

They are pissed because the majority of the people on that panel are women.

One of these losers who only started up a blog in an attempt to move the pathetic puppies moving into tabletop gaming even tried to look like he researched them.  Then later in the comments on his very post when he is countered with evidence supporting a person on the list he admits to only using one site to do his 'research' on the people.

They are pissed because the majority of the people on that panel are women.

One man on the list they said deserved to be there because of his work on the game Firefly.  Then discounted the woman on the list who happened to be the person who hired that person to work on the game in the first place.

They are pissed because the majority of the people on that panel are women.

Every claim they make can be countered.  Or they can't explain why they only suddenly started giving a damn about the panel this year.  Many have deep connections with the pathetic puppies who are trying to dismantle the Hugo Awards over women and minorities getting to many nominations.

So it all comes down to one basic undeniable fact.

They are pissed because the majority of the people on that panel are women.  They are claiming this will be the downfall and eventual nail that seals the coffin on GenCon.

I say they are a bunch of crybaby losers who hate that women are doing more than they could ever hope to accomplish in their pathetic lives.

Cyberpunk 2020 Polymer one shots

Looking at the age of 3D printers and the sheer amount of things you can make with them it's no surprise that some folks are using them to make firearms.  Different variations, materials, etc. Some need other parts, some don't, etc.  It's all a really neat bit of future tech many thought would be a few more years off yet.

This got me to thinking about Polymer one shots in Cyberpunk 2020.

Instead of having them stocked with a preselected limited variety of plastic firearms.  Why not have the entire set up be like a big 3D printer in a box?  Complete with a variety of material to make different colored plastics, the needed metal bits (if any) and the ammo to go into them.

A kiosk for these things could have a touchscreen much like the Redbox we see everywhere now.  Pick from a huge list of choices in design and look.  Add on some graphics, maybe even load up a picture to have printed on the sides.  Custom logos could really add some details.  Then hit the start button and give it some time and 'kachunk' it drops your new gun into the bin.  Of course by this point the printers would be faster than what they are now, maybe even five minutes or less on a good job.

Going to have to crank out some new stats for these along with some variation depending on how much you want to pay.  Maybe even some negatives or unknowns in case a shady dealer loaded up cheaper plastic material in there this week.

Good times.

Don't forget you can find the core book in print and pdf over at Drivethru.    Cyberpunk 2020 from R.Talsorian.

Jaded Gamers Far West

Did you ever have one of those times where you felt really lucky that you didn't do something?  I've got one of those times, it was when Far West went up on Kickstarter and I almost backed it.  It would have been my first project I ever backed but I was a bit skeptical of the whole crowdfunding thing at that time.  Even though I had been following some of Gareth Skarka's blog stuff about the game and found it interesting I gave it a pass.  Decided that I would instead pick it up once it was released.

Boy am I glad I made that decision.  It's closing in on the five year mark and still the book has not made it to the backers, much less the open market.  Something like this would have left a bad taste in my mouth for Kickstarter and I would have been less likely to back other projects.  Fortunately I've backed other folks who managed to get their books out in a timely manner (John Wick and Second Thought Games are the two that come to mind immediately).

Now he's evidently offering out refunds but is urging that people stick with him and not ask for one.  Really at this point I'm not sure why anyone would... but that's just me.  Because nearly five years is a bit much.  Honestly with as many blown 'promised' delivery dates and 'almost' done updates it has become a joke among the gaming community on the internet.  Coupled with some of his snarky remarks to backers and others questions what is going on it has become a clear example of what not to do so many times.  There are even websites up mocking the project and showing all of the quoted delivery dates over the years.

But the sad part is this.

Gareth and his company Adamant has put out so much good stuff in the past.  Hong Kong Action Theater was simply an amazing example of how to emulate a specific film genre.  Terminal Drift, actually got me somewhat interested in D20 material when I was sick of it.  Imperial Age was a another good D20 product that floated to the top during the glut.  Then MARS captured the John Carter of Mars vibe so well with a good system adaption and a setting that had just enough of the serial numbers filed off.

Then he did this Kickstarter along with a few other, so far, flubbed pre-orders of cool properties (Buckaroo Banzai among them) that haven't delivered.  His, and his companies, reputations have become quite stained.  It will require a lot of dedication and hard work to rebuild and with the amount of cynicism he has shown over the last few years I'm not sure he has the drive to do it.

Until next time.
